Jump on board with Jezebel Express for a weekend like no other!

Jezebel Express is a New York artist known for her quick wit and spectacular shimmy-shaking performances. She can regularly be found in New York City on top of various bars, but she has traveled the world performing and teaching (recent stops include Reykjavik and Prague!)

Jezebel is a core instructor at the New York School of Burlesque, and she believes that glamour is for EVERYONE. She specializes in choreography/dance storytelling, fan dancing, and helping dancers of all levels build grace and confidence.

And for one weekend only she is bringing all her shake and shimmy to Hampton Roads and Hipnotic World Fitness Center!

This unbelievable event includes the following workshops and an amazing SHOW featuring Jezebel and other special guests:

Doors open 10 am

*10:30 am to 12:30 pm: Bump & Grind (1.5-2h)
Let’s bring it back to basics with an overview of burlesque’s basic foundations: bumps, grinds, shimmies and shakes!
We’ll talk about burlesque dance technique, learn a short superfun routine, and talk about walking, posing, and strategies for doing a striptease with style! This class will be valuable for both beginners performers who need an introduction to burlesque and experienced performers who are ready to rethink their assumptions about 'the basics'.
This is a dance class, so wear clothing you can move in. Dance moves can be modified to different abilities, and everyone is welcome.

*LUNCH 12:30-1:30 pm (Studio will remain open during this time so you can bring your lunch or visit a nearby restaurant)

*1:30-4:30 pm: Body Confidence for Showgirls (& Everybody Else!) (3h)

Everyone covets a burlesque star’s life: glittering costumes, bubbling champagne, crippling self-doubt. (Wait, what?)

Let’s be real: many confident, talented people have moments where they lack confidence in their bodies or their skills. It’s hard to feel worthy in the age of Instagram, and if you lack confidence, it’s not your fault. But you do have the power to change that, because confidence is a daily practice, and you can begin to build yours whenever you want.

We’ll talk about confidence challenges and the ways to re-think your relationship with media, discover some of the ‘false stories’ we tell ourselves, and learn daily practices that can help us build our confidence over time.

We’ll also probably take a break in the middle there to dance it out (but you don't need to wear 'dance clothes' - just dress comfortably!)
Come prepared to think and laugh and get excited about feeling good about yourself.

(Due to tight schedules, the studio will close by 4:45 pm with no exception.)

Saturday Night: GALA SHOW featuring Jezebel Express and special guests. 18 and up strictly enforced.
Doors 7:30 pm, show at 8 pm sharp!
VIP (front row and swag bag) $20 each
General Admission: $10 each

Doors open at 10:30 am

*11:00 am-1:00 pm: Ostrich Feather Fan Dancing (2h)

Whether you're new to the world of fan dancing or an experienced showgirl whose fans are gathering dust, this class will instill in you the confidence and knowledge you need to fan dance fantastically onstage.

We'll start the class by revisiting basic fan handling techniques, from finding a comfortable grip to moving your fans around your body with grace and ease. We'll explore different types of fan movement and learn framing poses that help you use fans to showcase your performance.

We'll also address a performer's practical concerns: how to choreograph a fan dance that sparkles instead of snoozes, how to utilize fans in floorwork, and how to get your clothes off while your hands are full!

Bring your fans, and your questions! Wear clothing you can move in.
(Extra fans will be available to use, or if you want to purchase fans the recommended size is 30" x 50", Jezebel recommends Fancyfeather.com and you can receive 10% off with code NYSB10)

*LUNCH 1:00 pm-2:00 pm (Studio will remain open during this time so you can bring your lunch or visit a nearby restaurant)

*2:00 pm-5:00 pm: Burlesque Choreography & Act Development (3h)

You’ve got the moves, you’ve got the attitude.. but do you have the skills it takes to create a truly spectacular act? This workshop will help you learn the principles of solid burlesque choreography. We’ll talk about:

*how to select the best music to frame and enhance your act

*how to pace movement using choreographic principles for maximum excitement and tease

*how to make creative costuming decisions that don't break the bank

*how to build and maintain a strong character and tell a clear story

*how to perform with grace and poise, even if you're not a trained dancer

*how to anticipate performance disasters (and use them to win your audience over!)

*how to create a striking beginning and a memorable ending

This class is suitable for performers of all levels, and performers are welcome to bring their questions about acts they’re currently creating! This class will be mostly talking, but there will be some movement elements, so wear something comfortable.

(Due to tight schedules, the studio will close by 5:15 pm with no exception.)
